Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it, and with a little planning and creativity, this could be your best one yet!
We’ve been brainstorming ideas to help make that happen!
Here’s what we’ve come up with…
Take a quick look at the list of possible date activities below and pick at least one that you and your spouse can enjoy together.
We hope and pray that this will give you a great opportunity to have some fun together as a couple and to enjoy some meaningful conversations.
In Your Home
It’s Getting Hot & Messy in Here (Estimated Time: 60 minutes) Bake something together using ingredients already in your home, or try baking without a recipe.
Discuss:
Is it easy for us to make simple decisions together, like whether or not to use a recipe and which ingredients to include? Why or why not?
What are some ingredients for a healthy marriage?
Google It (Estimated Time: 20 minutes) Look up the meaning of your first and middle names.
Discuss:
What are the meanings of our names?
How do the meanings fit or not fit who we’ve become as individuals?
Fondue (Estimated Time: 1.5 hours) Have a fondue supper or dessert together.
Discuss:
Ask each other, “What are your fondest memories of our relationship?”
Steamy Mug (Estimated Time: 20-45 minutes) Make a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, play some music, and find a quiet comfy place in your home to sit down. Take turns asking each other fun “Would you rather?” questions. For example, would you rather lose your sense of smell or your sense of touch? For ideas, just google “Would you rather questions for couples.”
Discuss:
As you go, tell your spouse which of their answers surprised you the most and why.
Camp-IN (Estimated Time: All Night) Pull out the sleeping bags and camp out in the living room. Go crazy and set up a tent inside. Or go really crazy and have a no-power night (it’s okay to leave the heater on).
Discuss:
What would be the hardest electronic device to go without?
What would be the easiest electronic device to get rid of?
Tropical Staycation (Estimated Time: 30 minutes) Break out the blender and your favorite beach snacks and have a beach party in the house. Maybe even inflate your beach ball, taking turns blowing so no one faints.
Discuss:
If there were no limitations, where would we most enjoy going on a vacation?
Now That’s Relaxing (Estimated Time: 40 to 60 minutes) Make a spa in your home. Light candles, run a warm bath, drink tea…. This one’s all about relaxing.
Discuss:
What would be our ideal relaxing day?
I’ll Call (Estimated Time: 60 minutes) Get dressed up, light some candles, and enjoy a take-out meal from your favorite restaurant.
Discuss:
What is the best thing you have ever eaten?
What foods bring you back to your childhood?
Out of Your Home
Shop With A Purpose (Estimated Time: 20 to 45 minutes) Head to a discount store or shop online. Buy a gift for your spouse that costs $5 or under.
Discuss:
When you give your spouse the gift, complete this sentence: I bought you this because…
Out-of-the-Norm (Estimated Time: 20 to 90 minutes) Do something that you would not normally do (for example, tobogganing, skating, cross-country/downhill skiing, snowshoeing, walking).
Discuss:
What are our best memories of an outdoor date we have had together?
Steamy Mug (Estimated Time: 60 minutes) Go to a local coffee shop and order something to drink. Take turns asking each other fun “Would you rather?” questions.
Discuss:
As you go, tell your spouse which of their answers surprised you the most and why.
Light It Up (Estimated Time: 60 minutes) Have a campfire in the backyard or at a local park that has pits.
Discuss:
What keeps the spark alive in our marriage?
Heading Out (Estimated Time: 60 to 90 minutes) Get dressed up and go to your favorite restaurant for a meal.
Discuss:
What is the best thing you have ever eaten?
What foods bring you back to your childhood?
With a Group or Church
Zooming Invite couples to a Zoom call where everyone will have a chance to share their date night experiences.
I Would Like S’more of That Invite couples to a bonfire where everyone will have a chance to share their date night experiences. Make it into a “Make Your Own S’more” party, and ask everyone to bring their own s’more supplies, roasting sticks, and chairs.
Traveling Around Have several outdoor stations, each with a different activity for couples to complete. This could look like a scaled-back version of Amazing Race, with some minute-to-win-it challenges… or really any fun activity you can think up. Include questions for couples to ask each other as they move from station to station.
